ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The BNC SongCreation MasterClass will be a powerful deep dive into creativity. Beth will talk about the full spectrum of the birth of a song, starting with the magic of creative flow, how to find it, feel it, and harness its power in your songwriting. From there, we will move into the analytical realm to identify and establish what could be better, etc.

Step three is learning how to shift gears again, going back to the place of play and exploration in the flow, in order to refill those weaker areas with more of the good stuff so that the final song will be inspired as well as airtight.

You will come away with clarity and new tools in your toolkit for every aspect of the writing process from the first blush to the final tweak. Beth will be using the critiquing of your songs in the class to illustrate how to make every song as great as it can be. Learn the four essential questions to ask every song before you roll them out into the world.

Participating songwriters wanting feedback on their songs, will submit one song with lyric to an email provided after registration.

Not everyone will be guaranteed of a critique depending on the size of the class so Beth will pre-select at least 5 songs from your submissions that highlight the teaching of specific points and ideas. Then Beth will put all remaining submitted songs into her “Feedback Fishbowl" and randomly select as many as she can get to critique!

Beth Nielsen Chapman has taught worldwide in many venues, including the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and Berklee College of Music. In October 2016, she was inducted into the Nashville Songwriting Hall of Fame. A Nashville-based singer-songwriter, she has written hits for a variety of artists, including Bette Midler, Elton John, Emmylou Harris, the Indigo Girls, and Willie Nelson. The mega-hit single “This Kiss,” sung by Faith Hill, ASCAP’S 1999 Song of the Year, garnered Chapman a Grammy Award nomination.

Chapman’s music has been heard on ER, Dawson's Creek, Providence, and Felicity, and in movie soundtracks, including The Prince of Egypt, Message In A Bottle, The Rookie, Where The Heart Is, and Practical Magic. Her groundbreaking 1997 CD, Sand & Water, written in the wake of her husband’s death in 1994, and Deeper Still, released in 2001 following her journey through breast cancer, have rendered deeply healing songs. In 2010, her Back To Love CD spawned two hits on BBC Radio 2 and she went on two tours in England, culminating in a show featuring her music at the Mermaid Theater in London with BBC’s oldest running live radio show, Friday Night Is Music Night.

Recently Beth’s collaboration with friend Olivia Newton John was included on Olivia – Just The Two of Us – a special collection released to celebrate Olivia’s career. Their song “Stone In My Pocket,” which originally appeared on 2016’s Liv On - Olivia’s album with Beth and Amy Sky - is part of 17-track album celebrating Olivia’s duets.

Beth’s latest album, produced by Ray Kennedy, is called “CrazyTown” and was internationally released September 23rd, 2022 on Cooking Vinyl.
